Boston Cannons En-Route to Playoffs
For those of us, myself included, who appreciate a high intensity, fast paced sport and may be slightly bored by baseball and the Redsox, there is a solution! That is, the Boston Cannons! The Boston Cannons are part of the Major League of Lacrosse, and they are currently having a pretty great season. Watching lacrosse, especially at a professional level, is exciting and sometimes even nerve-wracking. Lacrosse is a relatively high scoring game, where ball possession and score can change easily and quickly creating an action packed event.
The Boston Cannons are currently ranked third in the league with their playoff hopes alive and thriving. Last week, the Boston Cannons defeated the Chesapeake Bayhawks with a 14-11 victory. The Cannons started the game on fire with four goals in the first five minutes. The Bayhawks did not take the lead until the start of the second quarter with back-to-back goals. The Cannons and Bayhawks continued to keep the score close and entered the fourth quarter 10-9, with the Cannons up by 1. The Bayhawks scored again to tie it up. The cannons responded with a pair of quick goals and proceeded to win 14-11.
The Boston Cannons have a depth of talented players such as Will Manny, Max Seibald, Kevin Buchanan, and captain Scott Ratfliff. Will Manny is an offensive asset who has scored an impressive 19 goals this season. Max Seibald is a skilled offensive and defensive player who joined the Cannons after a season with the United States National Lacrosse team. This season, Seibald has 14 goals, 9 assists, and 22 ground balls. Kevin Buchanan is a high scorer, with 18 goals this season, and was awarded Coca-Cola’s player of the game for his performance in last week’s game against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Boston Cannon’s captain, Scott Ratliff, is a key defensive player. Ratliff has scooped up 60 ground balls this season allowing the Boston Cannons to have possession of the ball. Last week, Ratliff was named Warrior’s defensive player of the week. Other players to watch include Rob Emery and Owen Blye.
Excitement surrounding the Cannons is mounting; after all, the Cannons could be the next team to bring home a championship title to Boston. The Cannons play next on the Fourth of July. On Saturday, they will take on the Denver Outlaws at Denver. The game will be available on ESPN3 at 9:00pm ET.
