Walking into Modern Pastry in the North End is easily compared to walking into your favorite bar. The staff is so friendly and accommodating; and no matter how jam packed it is, you can rest assure that you will receive the finest service, hands down. The great thing about this establishment, and maybe unlike your favorite bar, is you will never get shut off from their desserts. I like that.
This family owned, family operated slice of heaven has been dishing out over 150 years of recipes, methods, and experience. Everything is hand-made, made to order, and is by far the best pastry shop I have ever encountered. Please take my word on this, as I have a major sweet tooth.
Small tables make it convenient for you to sit and enjoy a latte and a cannoli (my personal preference), while reading this month’s issue of Dirty Water News. Don’t be surprised if the front page looks familiar, because… that’s right folks, Modern Pastry will be our feature on the front page!
Whether you’re celebrating birthdays, graduations, promotions, weddings, christenings, retirements, holidays, or any other special occasion, my suggestion is to order from these guys. They really know what they’re doing… and I’ve got a little surprise to share with you all.
When you walk by (obviously to go into) Modern Pastry, you’ll pass what looks like a small vacant area. Ah, but not for long. The vacant space next door is the “old” Modern Pastry Shop, which will be reopening soon. Owners John Picariello and Sara McGee gave us a sneak peak today at what is going to be called, “The Modern Underground”. It will be located on the lower level of the new space. This is where your new favorite bar enters the picture.
In my opinion, this is the greatest compliment to an already amazing establishment. Start downstairs for apps and drinks, stay down there for dessert, or show face upstairs and pick your poison right from the case. Either way, you are in good hands. “The Modern Underground” is said to be up and running shortly, so be sure to stay tuned. It’s a guarantee that I will be the first in line… or at least, I’ll try to fight my way up there.
I’ll keep you in suspense and save the pictures of this decadent shop until the Dirty Water News issue for June is published (Tuesday, June 3rd for those who simply cannot WAIT!).
Our Congratulations and sincerest gratitude to the whole family at Modern Pastry; We, at Dirty Water News, look forward to working with you and (of course) bellying up to the bar as soon as those doors open for The Modern Underground! Cheers!
