The-Finest-Hours-Banner303The stars of Disney’s “The Finest Hours” will be in Boston tomorrow night to screen the new film – which opens nationwide on Friday, January 29 – to a private guest list at the AMC Boston Common. “The Finest Hours” stars Chris Pine and Casey Affleck will walk the red carpet with producers Jim Whitaker and Dorothy Aufiero (who also worked on local film “The Fighter”), director Craig Gillespie, screenwriter Scott Silver, and local members of the Coast Guard.

the_finest_hours__premier_260116_3-840x560The Disney film is adapted from Casey Sherman and Michael Tougias’ book about the real-life 1952 Coast Guard rescue of an oil tanker crew whose ship literally split in two off Cape Cod during a winter N’oreaster.

Casey Affleck plays an engineer on the tanker who commands the vessel through the crisis. Chris Pine plays Chatham Coast Guard officer Bernie Webber, who, with a small crew, braved the storm and rescued nearly all the sailors.

The same group premiered the film in Hollywood earlier this week along with U.S. Coast Guard members and the actual hero from the book Andy Fitzgerald. The film was shot in Quincy and on the Cape Cod.
