Paul Pierce isn’t backing down.

Retired Celtics legend Paul Pierce reiterated his position that he should not have to share the spotlight with former Isaiah Thomas, who asked that his video tribute take place on February 11. That’s the day when Thomas expects to play when the Cavs return to TD Garden, but it’s also the same day Pierce will have his Celtics jersey hung in the rafters to honor his 19-year career.

“I’m going to have all the people that helped me get to the point to where I needed to be, throughout my 10-year career, to be successful,” Pierce said Friday night on ESPN’s NBA Countdown. “And I just feel like that’s just a special day for me…

“Isaiah will be back in Boston again — next year, the year after, he’s going to have a long career,” Pierce said. “But this one day should belong to Paul Pierce.”
