The Midi Skirt (And how to wear it with confidence)

I love the Midi skirt.

It’s a trend that is certainly here to stay and has become a staple in my closet. It can be the perfect ladylike addition to your wardrobe and when styled right can be  flattering and feminine. There are a few fast rules to follow when wearing this style.

Styling Tip #1
If your skirt is voluminous, make sure you wear something fitted on top and definitely tuck in your shirt or wear a cropped style. This will create a slim waistline and balance your outfit. When getting dressed, You need to create the correct proportions. Conversely, if your top is loose and relaxed make sure you wear a fitted bottom.

Relaxed, loose or voluminous top = fitted bottom
Fitted top = loose fitting bottom

Styling Tip #2
This is a hard rule for me to follow as well… Stay away from flat shoes as much as you can with this style. I do occasionally wear sneakers like chucks, or my Stan smiths with my midi skirts which is a fun and functional alternate to flats. If you must wear flats for daytime try some pointed Loafers. Heels are certainly my first choice with this skirt and will help elongate your look and make you look polished.

Styling Tip #3
Have fun with it!  I have seen midi skirts in all sorts of floral patterns, checks, stripes, bright colors, and textures. Let your midi skirt be your statement piece and the center of your outfit today.
