Nepotism is alive and well in Foxboro.
The Patriots announced their coaching staff for this upcoming season. One name stood out: Stephen Belichick, son of the Hoodie was named the team safeties coach.
The young Belichick was a walk on long snapper at Rutgers where he also played lacrosse. Prior to that he was a linebacker, tight end and fullback at The Rivers School in Weston.
Steve has been on his father’s staff since 2012. Being named a position coach is a major promotion for him. The 29-year-old son of Bill was named after his grandfather — the former Hiram College and Navy coach.
“It’s great,” Bill Belichick said about working alongside his son in 2015. “It’s great, I mean, there was a six-year period there where he was in prep school and college, Division I lacrosse player, played for a year. So, now the opportunity to be with him on a daily basis, see him and work with him and watch him grow and mature — it’s awesome. It’s great.”
I guess it’s not what you know, but who you know down at Patriot Place.
