Burgers, Frappes & Fries, Oh My! Boston’s Must Try Burger Joint

If you live in the greater Boston area or have an Instagram, you’ve most likely seen a “freak frappe.” These over-the-top, outrageously delicious frappes are carefully crafted by the crew at Boston Burger Company, otherwise known as BBC. Inspired by creative frappes from Australia, BBC freak frappes are coated in frosting, doused in whipped cream, and topped with everything ranging from whoopie pies, to bacon, to candy and s’mores. Has your sweet tooth kicked in yet?

BBC offers more than just Instagram-worthy frappes—they offer the whole restaurant experience! Located in Somerville, Cambridge, Boston, and two upcoming locations, BBC delivers “burgers with attitude”, funky fries, freaky frappes and a casual, upbeat atmosphere. I interviewed co-founder and co-owner Paul Malvone to get the inside scoop on the past, present, and future of BBC. The following pictures and highlights will have you planning your next meal at none other than Boston Burger Company.

Here are just a few reasons why we love BBC:

  1. Daring and Bold Burgers

BBC creates some of the most outrageous burger combinations, but somehow, fuses all the ingredients and toppings together in a perfect harmony. Sometimes, food can be so daring and different that it loses quality, taste, and freshness. I can assure you that Paul and his team maintain both a unique and perfect tasting burger.

BBC steps outside the box and tops a bun with peanut butter, bacon, bananas, cinnamon and sugar in their famous creation, “The King”. Other crowd pleasers include the “Hot Mess”, featured on Rachel Ray, a burger topped with bacon, sweet potato fries, thousand island dressing, pickles, jalapeño, red onion, lettuce and American cheese; or the “Kitchen Sink”, topped with quite literally, everything but the kitchen sink.

Paul and I both agree that BBC offers a burger for every kind of craving and mood! Craving thanksgiving dinner? Try “The Pilgrim.” In the mood for spicy? Order “The Inferno”. Need some BBQ? Try “The Porkasaurus”

  1. Instagram-Worthy Frappes

A frappe is the perfect complement to your burger. Paul describes the sweet and salty pair as a “fine marriage”. “They’re meant to be together!” he exclaims. Try Paul’s all-time favorite Nutella frappe or one of BBC’s exclusive monthly frappes!

I’ll let the pictures do the talking from here.

  1. Underrated Fries and Sides

BBC fries do not get the attention they deserve. Most of my friends have seen pictures of freak frappes, but have yet to try BBC’s French fries. These A+ appetizers are topped with anything from garlic, parmesan and butter, to clam “chowda” and bacon. My personal favorite are the “BBC Sweets”, sweet potato fries drizzled with caramel and tossed in cinnamon— these babies taste like candy! I could single-handedly eat a whole bowl and feel no shame. Even after a whole bowl of fries, I still have room for BBC’s homemade potato chips! So crunchy! So fresh!

  1. A+ Atmosphere

As someone who appreciates art and calligraphy, I am starstruck by BBC’s creative decor, wall-murals and menus. These accents give their restaurants a cool, casual and comfortable vibe. Next time you stop in, take a minute to appreciate all the art that surrounds you!

  1. The BBC Mission and Staff

You may recognize BBC’s co-founder and co-owner Paul Malvone from his appearances on Rachel Ray’s Battle of the Best Burger, Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Phantom Gourmet. Sure these were great accomplishments, but Paul insists that the most rewarding experience is “when we bring out a frappe or a burger and the guests look at it, stop and take out their phone and take a picture. It gives me a sense of accomplishment, joy and satisfaction—that what I have created made someone’s day”. He admits, “I may not be saving lives or fighting for my country but maybe I made someone’s day a little brighter or turned a bad day into a good day”. THAT right there is proof of BBC’s commitment to their mission to deliver great experiences to all of their customers.

If you take my advice and head down to Boston Burger Company, be sure to snap a pic, make Paul’s day, and tag @bostonburger_co on Instagram! Happy Freaky Frappe-day!
