Restaurants, Bakeries and Retailers Across the Cape & Islands Will Designate a Signature Dessert to Benefit Breast Cancer Research and Awareness
Cape & Islands Bakes for Breast Cancer returns for its fifth year and is seeking applications for its 2020 initiative, which will help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Bakeries, cafés, pastry shops and restaurants throughout the Cape & Islands will participate during this year’s fundraiser from Monday, August 3 through Sunday, August 9, 2020. Participants can register here no later than Monday, July 20th, 2020. Since its inception in 1999, Bakes for Breast Cancer has raised over 2 million dollars for breast cancer research and awareness and hundreds of different bakeries, cafés, pastry shops and restaurants have participated.
There are two ways to participate in Cape & Islands Bakes for Breast Cancer – the first is by offering one designated dessert where 100% of the proceeds go towards the organization, or the second would be offering the entire dessert menu as the designated desserts where 50% of the proceeds go back to Bakes for Breast Cancer.
“We are on a mission to end breast cancer for good, one sweet treat at a time,” said Bakes for Breast Cancer Founder, and Cape Cod resident, Carol Sneider. “We continue to grow each year, raise more money than the year before, and I’m completely in awe of the people who support the venues and our organization in a number of other ways. We’re pleased to have been able to evolve this year’s initiative into something that we think will work for all during this current time. Although we may have tough hurdles ahead due to the impact of COVID-19, we are dedicated to meeting our fundraising goals.”
Proceeds raised will benefit the nonprofit breast cancer organization Bakes for Breast Cancer which will support the research of Dr. Rachel Freedman. Dr. Freedman’s clinical trials will focus on treatment for older breast cancer patients, an area of research that has been vastly under subsidized. Funds will go to benefit Cape & Islands residents where the rate of breast cancer is 20% higher than the national average.
Returning venues and already-confirmed locations include Cru Oyster Bar, Bleu, and Sagamore Inn. Following Cape & Islands Bakes for Breast Cancer is the 21st Annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer and Rhode Island Bakes for Breast Cancer from October 19 to October 25, 2020.
