As The Snow Falls Outside – Here’s Everything You Need to Know to Prepare for Your Spring Break Get Away!
It’s that time of the year again … Spring Break! At first this young Boston-area college girl like myself most definitely thinks to herself “YES! VACATION, WARMTH, NO CLASS, HALLELUJAH”. But then reality sinks in and I realize “damn, I have been living the life of a hibernating grizzly bear for the past six months.” Let’s get real, sweatpants and baggy sweatshirts have basically become my second skin to survive the brutal Boston winter. I am practically Casper the Ghost, pasty white. Overall my appearance is definitely lacking. So, beach bod mode must go into hyper drive.
When it comes to working out I find I get bored quite easily, literally can only stay on the treadmill if I have a Netflix series streaming in front of my face, so my tip to staying motivated is definitely staying diverse with your fitness routine. Going to the gym, taking spin, and stretching with yoga classes has given me the diversity that I definitely need, and sometimes I even just follow youtube videos in my dorm room like the one below.
Working out can suck, but dieting is definitely worse LOL, I love my food and have found that making SATISFYING meal preps that keep me full is the key to not wanting to snack late night (chunky peanut butter on a chocolate rice cake w/ chocolate chips… I adore you). I am not going to bother you with my meal preps because let’s get real no one cares and you can find MUCH better ones on Pinterest.
However, I will share with you what my roommates have been doing as a “Spring Break-Crunch Time-Smoothie Cleanse”… I did not take part as I enjoy solid food too much.
Breakfast – Green Tea with Lemon
- 1 Cup Water
- 1 Tbsp Flaxseed
- 1 Cup Raspberries
- 1 Banana
- ¼ Cup Spinach
- 1 Tbsp Almond Butter
- 2 Tsp Lemon Juice
- Lunch – Smoothie made from:
- ½ Cup Almond Milk
- 4 Celery Sticks… lol this is such a diet it’s awful
- 1 Cucumber… hahahahaha it keeps getting worse
- 1 Cup Kale
- ½ Green Apple
- ½ Squeezed Lime
- 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 Cup Pineapple
Dinner – Smoothie:
- 1 & ½ Cups Coconut Water
- 1 Cup Blueberries
- ½ Cup Mango
- 1 Cup Kale
- 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- ¼ Avocado
- ¼ Tbs Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Flaxseed
In addition to these “meals” the smoothie cleanse victim is allowed green tea before breakfast and after dinner, and water with lemon and cayenne pepper before and after lunch!
When I asked my dear roomies for a quote on their experience I was told that … “The smoothie cleanse made me feel good and the breakfast one was super delicious.” “I feel skinnier, but definitely crave some real food.” “The green one had a whole cucumber in it and I threw it up at work.” So, take that for what you will.
Overall, I would say some mixed reviews … definitely not for everyone, but highly recommended to those who want to see a difference FAST!
When it comes to Spring Break, or any vacation/bathing suit wearing occasion there can be a lot of stress and pressure on us females, but it is important to love yourself and remember that in order to have a bikini body you simply need two things: a bikini & a body. LOVE YOURSELF.
Vacationing in the middle of the winter calls for lots of skin tone assistance, especially when you are a blue eyed, freckle faced Irish girl who could camouflage with the snow. Now onto my spring break make up regimen. if you’re anything like me, you suck at putting on makeup, and DEFINITELY want to be able to swim in a pool/ocean without the fear of mascara dripping down your face. #NotCute What I am about to share with you is big, like practically life changing for me … get eyelash extensions.
I wake up in the morning, and DO NOT PUT ON ANY EYE MAKE UP, it is incredible. My girl Jaime Ross (@beautybyjaime) is the sweetest, most talented chick and makes me feel SO confident with my lash extensions. I am serious, if you have ever considered any type of eyelash extension you simply have to go to her.
Last but not least, the all important mani-pedi. I don’t know about you guys but when it comes to nail care in the winter … I do not give a damn. It is cold, it is dry, my cuticles are flying everywhere and the OPI light pink “Mod About You” (winter classic) color that I painted on myself has chipped away to practical nonexistence. So it is safe to say your girl deserves some spa time!
I headed over to Rose Nails on Moody Street, got a sick parking ticket #thxWalthamPD, and got the hook up. The service was great and I am so happy with how my white gel polish (tryna look tan okay) came out! Rose Nails has been around for almost 2 years and specializes in nail art, designs and all of the up to date nail trends.
Overall, I am super extra and it is totally not necessary to treat Spring Break like Senior Prom, but if you do I absolutely recommend each of these businesses but probably do not recommend the smoothie cleanse, (sry not sry). Do what makes you happy and remember that Spring Break is supposed to be exactly that, a break! Use it as time to relax, reflect, and recharge for the last leg of winter. I personally will be reading a lot of Jodi Picoult, doing a lot of horizontal laying, snorkeling and eating a bunch of carbs. 😉
