What’s New On Boston Harbor

by | May 7, 2020 | Dirty Water News

May is the month when we would normally be heading back to Boston Harbor as they opened up the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park with public ferry service. Things are different this year as we stay home through the coronavirus shutdown. Now we’re visiting our parks with masks and social distancing to help stop the spread of the virus.  Because people are not able to get out to the water and the Harbor Islands at this time, Boston Harbor Now is working hard with their many non-profit and public partners to bring it home for you.
Their new Harbor at Home video series gets updated with fresh content each week. You can do yoga, hear from harbor historians, or experience harbor-inspired art and music from local artists. This month, their Waterfront Wednesdays vlog focuses on resilience and one man’s love for the harbor -and Walter Hope’s (Chair of the Friends of the Harbor Islands) life on a boat.
As we look towards the future, they’re working with their Island partners to develop plans for reopening the park when it becomes safe to do so. You can visit www.bostonharborislands.org for updates. Meanwhile, you can join them for the next Harbor Use Forum about Moakley Park on May 27th at 8:30 AM and mark your calendars for June 4th, their next Boston Harbor for All Summit. We are working with a terrific team to bring you a day of conversations and perspectives about waterfront parks and public spaces from across the country.

Bringing Boston Harbor Home to You

Harbor At Home is a place to showcase and support the virtual programming of Boston Harbor Now’s community partners, many of which are small businesses and organizations. Their unique and entertaining content will help connect you to your waterfront, harbor, and islands wherever you may be.
