I wanted to love spin. I really did. I wanted to experience that post spin jubilation … that amazing spin physique. So I took a spin class … or five … and just wasn’t feeling it. I wasn’t hooked on spin the way that many of my friends and colleagues had become. I wanted so badly to be hooked like the rest of the world seemed to be, but there was something about sitting on a stationary bike and pretending to climb a mountain that i just couldn’t connect with. It didn’t motivate or inspire me. That is, until I realized that all spin classes are not created equal, especially when they are run by a cycologist.
Recently, I have been making roughly 3 trips a week to my cycologist. Yes, you read that right. It’s not a spelling error, but instead a clever name for the spin instructors of CYC Fitness Boston. CYC Fitness (pronounced Psych), located within the David Barton Gym at the Park Plaza Hotel, is not your average spin class.
The CYC Method of spin is a beat-based ride that incorporates a total body workout that can burn up to 800 calories a class. There are endurance intervals that keep you burning calories and your heart pounding, mixed in are weighted sectors designed to tone your whole body. You will definitely feel the burn. The playlists are designed to get your mind off of the workout and into the zone.
They even offer theme rides like “FriBEY” which features all Beyonce music. The themes change daily. The Cycologist controls the lighting/music and the room has such a night club vibe that you might actually forget that you are working out because you are having so much fun. If you don’t have spin shoes no worries, they have them for you, and you can even purchase socks if you forgot your own! They take great care of you at CYC, but more than anything else, you come to look forward to your CYC spin sessions. It’s like a fun night out with great music, awesome inspiration and a very cool crowd. And how often can you say that about a trip to the gym?
