Two icons are calling it quits this year.

Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers.

And David Ortiz with the Boston Red Sox.

The Kobe Goodbye Tour has been one long glorification of a great basketball player and a detestable human being. For a last place team like the Lakers, it has kept fannies in the seats and money in their coffers.

It all comes to an end on April 13, when The Black Mamba plays his last NBA game. And the Lakers are going for one last money grab.

Here are some of the tasteless and awfully expensive items the Lakers have put up for sale.

For the low price of $5,824.00, you can get a Los Angeles Lakers Limited Edition Kobe Bryant 24-Stoned Lambskin Jacket. The Lakers official online store tells us that each piece of this highly exclusive assortment honors Kobe’s record setting career. Nowhere on the website is it mentioned where to purchase the sexual assault settlement agreement from the Colorado case back in 2003. But I digress.

And if the jacket is not your thing, you can always go with the Limited Edition Kobe Bryant Snakeskin Jersey in a case for a cool $824.80. Snakeskin is very fitting tribute to Bryant.

The Lakers are showing no class in trying to capitalize off of Bryant’s retirement; going for the maximum money grab. Typical LA.

So with Big Papi retiring at the end of the season, will the Red Sox keep it classy or go for the money grab? My bet is on the latter.

As my colleague Steve Silva tweeted out Tuesday night, the Sox have already begun saying cha-ching!

And when you go to RedSox.com, you’ll find a section on the official team store page dedicated to Ortiz’s final season. There are now 249 items available — ranging from a David Ortiz men’s players bracelet for the price of $9.99 to an Ortiz autographed authentic jersey, framed for only $749.00.

I expect we will see more Big Papi farewell merchandise as we get further into the season.

Something tells me that — like the Lakers — the worse the season goes for the Local Nine, the more of a money grab the #Papipalooza tour becomes.
