Oh, what a night for fighting.

The most highly anticipated UFC fight night took place Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The two headlining events were nothing short of unbelievable.

Many predicted that if underdog Miesha Tate was going to beat Holly Holm it was going to be on the floor, and that’s exactly what Tate did.

In the second round, Miesha nearly submitted Holm after a perfectly timed take down. The fight went all the way to the fifth round and with 90 seconds left on the clock, Tate submitted Holm with a rear naked chokehold.

Holm tried to throw her off in a last minute effort, but Tate’s hold was too tight. “I had to be like a pitbull on a bone,” Tate said after the victory. Tate has been chasing the Bantamweight title for years and can finally hold her head up high as champion.

Despite Conor McGregor laying a beating on Nate Diaz for the first two rounds and seemingly controlling the fight, Diaz finished McGregor in the second round using the same rear naked choke that Tate used on Holm. McGregor was able to land a series of punches but admitted he was not use to an opponent that could take his blows and continue to fight. Diaz displayed his toughness in being able to carry on in the fight despite his face pouring blood and his eyes swollen. With a little more than a minute left to go in the second round McGregor, went for a take down. In that moment, Diaz was able to seize control of the fight, delivering some additional blows to McGregor and ultimately choking him into submission. “I’m not surprised, motherf***er”,  Diaz said when it was over.

Miesha Tate and Conor McGregor took home $50,000 for fighting where as Diaz took home $100,000. All of UFC 196’s fighters gave viewers an incredible show and the night will surely go down in as one of the best in the history of the sport.
