Celebrate the sweet life at Sugar Rush, a 5-course dessert-tasting event at Rail Stop (96 Guest St., Brighton), on Sunday, July 16th and Monday, July 17th. This sugary soire benefits Bakes for Breast Cancer, “which raises funds for breast cancer research through dessert-oriented events” said founder Jaime Davis Schick, an instructor at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.
“While almost everyone loves dessert, sometimes this last course to a meal is an afterthought,” Schick said. “I thought it would be fun to share an evening with my peers where dessert was the highlight – the only item on the menu.”
The two evenings will feature sweet treats from 5 of the area’s best pastry chefs, each serving their unique desserts while sharing their inspiration behind its creation and the techniques used.
Sunday’s event features delectable offerings from Katie Hamilburg of 80 Thoreau (salted caramel macarons passion fruit sorbet, almond, plum, and Laphroaig whisky), Shaun Velez of Deuxave (watermelon herbed vacherin with lemongrass poached blueberries, candied watermelon, and meringue), Stacy Mirabello of Johnson & Wales (coconut mousse with cucumber mint sorbet, and caramelized quinoa), Jesse Jackson III of No 9 Park, and Craig Williams of Williams Family Baking Co.
Monday’s event will feature plated pleasers from Linnea Blake of Eastern Standard and Island Creek, Valerie Nin of Grill 23 (blackberry mousse crepes with poached nectarines, hazelnut crumble, and fresh blackberries), Joshua Livsey of Harvest, Jaime Davis Schick of Johnson & Wales, and Keri Anderson (key lime pie with compressed mango, white chocolate pop rocks, coconut sorbet, and raspberry foam).
Tickets are $60 per person, per evening, with an optional cocktail pairing available for $25 per person, per evening. Guests wishing to participate in the cocktail pairing must be 21 years old and this option is only available for purchase in conjunction with the Sugar Rush Dessert event and cannot be sold alone. Gratuities are not included in prices.
