The Red Sox put Pablo Sandoval on the 15 day disabled list with a strained shoulder (insert joke here).

The Red Sox continue to enable their overweight third baseman. Manager John Farrell could not say when Sandoval hurt his shoulder but did tell reporters that getting Sandoval out of the spotlight here in Boston might be a big help.

“It’s been a real tough start,” Farrell told reporters Wednesday afternoon. “He’s been an easy target. We had a chance to sit and talk with him about that specifically. First and foremost we have to get him right physically to get past the shoulder issue. If a breather gives him a chance to maybe step away from the scrutiny he’s under, we’ll make every effort to have that take place. I still firmly believe that Panda is going to be a contributor to this team. We’re going to need him to be because there’s a darn good player in there. And we’ve got to continue to work to get that out.”

The Red Sox have really pissed me off. Why can’t this organization tell the truth? It started when owner John Henry lied in spring training about how Sandoval had was at 17 percent body fat and much more agile after working out during the offseason. What a load of crap.

And it continued all of spring training when we heard how hard he was working to get himself ready for the season. More crap thrown our way.

Then this tweet from Peter Abraham sent me over the edge.

Send him to Fort Myers so he can get in shape? He just spent seven freaking weeks there and did not drop an ounce. What the hell was he doing in spring training if he wasn’t getting at-bats and getting into shape? This is crazy.

Farrell says Pablo has been an easy target. Whose fault is that? How about acting like a professional and taking care of your body so you can earn some of the mega-millions the Red Sox have thrown your way.

Pablo's belt

Fand have a right to be pissed. They pay the highest ticket and concession prices in all of baseball. Part of the reason is because the team goes out and spends big money on players. But when they spend $95 million on a player who can barely bend over for a ground ball, that’s an insult. No one ever bitched at the money Pedro Martinez, Manny Ramirez, or David Ortiz were paid because they went out there and earned it.

Sandoval, by being out of shape, has hurt his team and insulted the paying customers. It’s time for the Red Sox to stop protecting him and worrying about how sensitive he is.

It’s time the Panda got some tough love from the team instead of all the ass kissing.
