I love horse racing. Always have, always will. I love to pour over the Daily Racing Form looking for that little nugget of information that will help me find that diamond in the rough that will pay off big at the betting window.
Saturday is the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, the biggest day in racing. Many folks who would never go to a horse track put on their finest clothes, find just the right hat, drink that awful tasting mint julep, and become a racing fan for the day.
And no one has embraced Derby Day more than Tom Brady.
I love the pictures of Brady and his posse getting ready to board their private plane and head to Churchill Downs. I look to see who’s with TB12, and what Patriots and hangers-on are traveling in style with their quarterback.
I want to see what Brady is wearing. How cool does the GOAT look? To me, this is the Academy Awards red carpet on steroids. Interestingly, Brady is not on the guest list for the exclusive Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala this year.
This video above is my all-time favorite Tom Brady Kentucky Derby moment. From the 2013 Derby, legend has it that Brady plunked down $4,700 on Orb for the win in the most exciting two minutes in sports. Orb came from behind to win the Derby by 2 1/2 lengths to pay Tommy a cool $25,000. And watch his reaction. It’s like he scored the game winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.

Even though Brady was living the life of luxury at the Derby, at that moment he became just like every other racing fan. I have seen that reaction countless times at the grandstand of Suffolk Downs. That’s what makes the Sport of Kings so special.
